Well, today started out much better than yesterday ended! Mr. Potato Head has eyes! We began our day with Guidance with Mrs. Vidic. She played Martin Luther King, Jr's "I Have a Dream" speech. Wow! They were all listening and seemed to enjoy hearing something so powerful. In Math, after our Number Talk, we finished up what we had begun yesterday. Then, we reviewed addition and subtraction with regrouping. I introduced them to my friends, Juan, Tim and Henry to help understand how regrouping works with subtraction. I also gave them login information for Manga High--a website where they can play math games and complete math challenges that I set up for them which correlates to what we're doing in class. After recess, we read more about Via from Wonder. Unfortunately, we also lost Mr. Potato Head's eyes. He's back to nothing but a potato. We have got to get the talking and yelling under control. In Reader's Workshop today, we read silently or visited the library, practiced spelling our high frequency words in fun ways and worked on writing our first kidblogs. We continued this blog writing in Writer's Workshop and focused on the nuts and bolts of writing and how we still need to pay attention to spelling, capitalization and punctuation.
