Welcome Back! I hope you had a good break. We picked up right where we left off~with a few reminders! :) We started our day discussing our break. I figured that if we got it all out of our systems, we wouldn't be talking all day long BUT some still talked throughout the day... In Math, we reviewed what we had learned of fractions. Unfortunately, kiddos are not showing the security of the skills as I'd liked so we are going to take the rest of this week to help solidify this understanding. After indoor recess (I got our classroom a Rainbow Loom!), we read more from City of Ember. Lina found the Instructions! But to what? Is it to get them help? In Reader's Workshop, we read about 2013 in Time For Kids through a Year in Pictures article. Tomorrow, students will create their own Year in Pictures using things from their personal lives. In Writer's Workshop, we watched a video on history.com about New Year's and the customs and traditions of the past and present. Then, we discussed resolutions and goal writing/setting. We talked about how our goals should be SMART--does your child remember what each letter stands for? Tomorrow, we will be writing academic goals to complete this trimester.
